Bamboo fiber reinforced polypropylene composites for transportation applications

The Apitong wood species has long been the most popular choice for transportation, such as in trailer decking and shipping container floors. However, is depleting due to its excessive usage. Bamboo fiber provides an alternative low density (608–780 kg/m 3 ) lightweight attributes. This study explores 1) development properties of bamboo-thermoplastic composites with different content, 2) application bamboo composite (a transportation application) Apitong. Extrusion-compression compression molding was used processing approaches composites. basic panels were tested flexural loading nail pull out evaluate feasibility a viable material. strength modulus found be 17 98% higher than Apitong, respectively. 670 compared (737 ), hence 10% lighter. pull-out comparable between two. work progressed producing prototype members via extrusion-compression molding. bamboo-composite evaluated on test bed exhibited excellent surface wear response, minimal internal damage withstood 400 fatigue cycles onset failure only at supports, which span did not exhibit damage.
